Things I would say as a therapist if I wasn't afraid to hurt your feelings :)

A few months ago, I saw this trend going around on social media. It made me think about some of the things I would tell you (friends or clients alike) if I was not sugarcoating anything. (Please note, I say these with love and zero judgment because I know everyone is on their own healing journey :) )

  1. Your mental health might be suffering because you are not taking care of the basics- good quality sleep, staying off social media, eating nutritious foods, getting enough water and exercise! I know it's hard, but trust me even one of these things will help so much.

  2. Meditation actually works! People have such a hard time with this, giving excuses such as “I don’t have enough time” or “My brain won’t shut off” but these are even better reasons TO meditate!

  3. Having a victim complex isn’t serving you anymore. While you may have been through hard things, your mind interprets your reality, and you will subconsciously find more reasons why the world is against you.

  4. Forgiveness is the quickest (and hardest!) way to heal. Closure and apologies rarely happen, and might not even help anyways. Even if you have been treated horribly, you are only doing yourself a disservice by holding on to anger and resentment for longer than necessary

  5. There is no quick fix or magic pill. Don’t listen to anyone who tells you that one thing will change everything. Healing in therapy takes time and is a lot of work- but ultimately worth it!
